Unfortunately I won't be starting today's stage of the Giro. I've been suffering since my crash on Sunday. I've had an issue with my shoulder which is manageable but my knee has also been getting worse each day, so the team have made the decision to pull me out. I'd love to continue, but it'd be a case of trying to survive each day rather than racing. I'll now head to Manchester to see some specialists and get a rehab plan together. After a small break, I'll turn my attention to the Tour, and hope to arrive in Germany with as good form as I started here. Its never nice to leave a race early especially the biggest goal of the season. But I have to look at the bigger picture. I must add a huge thanks to all the staff and riders here, it's been great fun and I wish them all the best for the reminder of the race. They certainly deserve to get something from it!!! I've really enjoyed racing in Italy again, the fans have been amazing and I'll be back 👍🏼👊

That couldn't have been much worse. Really shouldn't have happened!!! I'm ok though, around to fight another day. Thanks for the messages - means a lot 👍🏼
